Which is the most beautiful beach in Andaman

Most lists start with Radhanagar Beach on Swaraj Dweep, and for good reason. But beauty depends on what you want: a long walk at sunset, shallow water for children, snorkelling over coral or a quiet cove. The beaches below are grouped by island, so you can match them to your route. For the islands themselves, see islands to visit in Andaman.

Radhanagar Beach

Radhanagar Beach, also called Beach No. 7, lies on the west coast of Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), about 12 km from the island's jetty. It is roughly 2 km long, with fine white sand, turquoise water and tropical forest behind it.

Why is Radhanagar Beach famous? In 2004 Time magazine named it the best beach in Asia, and in 2020 it received Blue Flag certification, an international eco-label for beaches that meet environmental, safety and cleanliness standards. Its gentle waves make it suitable for swimming in calm weather, and its west-facing shore makes it a popular place to watch the sunset.

You can reach it by road from the jetty by taxi, scooter or the local bus. It is busy in the late afternoon, so come earlier if you want space.

Is there a white sand beach in Andaman

Yes, many. Radhanagar is the best known, but the beaches of Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep are mostly fine pale sand, often fringed by coral in the shallows.

Other beaches on Swaraj Dweep

The best beaches in Havelock Island go well beyond Beach No. 7:

  • Elephant Beach, on the northwest coast, is reached by boat or a forest walk. It is popular for snorkelling and other water activities.
  • Kalapathar Beach is another well known stretch of sand on the island.
  • Vijay Nagar Beach, also called Beach No. 5, is on the east coast.

Beaches on Shaheed Dweep

Shaheed Dweep (Neil Island) is small, so you can see its beaches in a day or two.

  • Laxmanpur Beach faces the sunset and is a calm place to end the day.
  • Bharatpur Beach has shallow water, which makes it one of the best beaches in Andaman for swimming with children.
  • The Natural Bridge, a limestone rock arch, is the island's best known sight. Check tide times locally before you go and watch your step on the rocks and coral.

Near Port Blair

Corbyn's Cove is the beach closest to Port Blair and a short ride from the town. It is useful if you have a spare afternoon before a ferry or a flight, though most visitors save their beach days for the other islands.

Swimming safely

The sea around the islands is beautiful but not a swimming pool. A few rules keep a beach day safe:

  • Saltwater crocodiles live in the islands. Avoid swimming near mangroves and the mouths of creeks, and follow any warning signs and local advice. Swimming in the open sea away from these areas is generally considered safe.
  • Swim where others swim, in calm conditions, and do not swim alone.
  • Do not stand on or touch coral. It is alive, it breaks easily and it can cut.
  • In the monsoon months, sea conditions can change quickly; read the best time to visit Andaman before you plan beach days.

If you want to see the reef rather than the sand, continue with scuba diving in the Andaman Islands.
